Director Leadership Development for a Fast-changing NHS Central Service

The Situation:

A major NHS agency had created a shortlist for a board appointment via one of the big six executive search firms However, they wanted an independent leadership assessment of each shortlisted candidate as the client felt that a third party would add objectivity in the assessment.

The Solution:

Each candidate was assessed using a combination of personality assessment, the Hogan HDS which looks at a candidate’s de-railers and ability tests. The shortlist was then interviewed by our business psychologist using semi structured interviews with feedback.

Each candidate spent nearly two hours with the consultant. A bespoke feedback report was then prepared for each candidate highlighting strengths and areas for probing.

The Outcome:

The client asked the consultant to attend the interview panel to de-brief the panel. They felt that the additional objective data provided by our consultants really added an additional dimension to the selection process, which was consistent, fair and objective. In particular, the process identified the team fit and leadership styles of the candidate.

The resulting hire is still in post and is a high-profile national NHS director.
