Competency frameworks

The term ‘competency’ is used to describe the knowledge, skills and attributes needed for successful performance, such as problem solving, leadership and communication skills. Competencies are developed using job analysis techniques, such as structured interviews, questionnaires and focus groups, to identify the behaviours that contribute towards superior  performance. This can be done for a specific job, a job family or an organisation as a whole.

The advantages that competencies can provide for your organisation include:

The basis for objective selection, development and performance management of your staff
A common language to describe people’s performance in behavioural terms
A clear link between people’s behaviour and the strategy of the organisation
A framework to help your HR systems operate in an integrated rather than independent way
A methodology for improving both individual and organisational performance

The Occupational Psychology Group will take a flexible approach to competencies, tailored to meeting your needs. We will work in partnership with our clients to develop robust competencies that reflect the challenges facing your organisation both now and in the future.  We have extensive experience in the design and application of competencies in the workplace and will draw on this to ensure that our work has the most positive impact on the profitability of your organisation.
